Commercial & ADA grab bars
If you manage an office, a rental, or a restroom the public uses, you need grab bars in the right place and mounted to stay. Our techs know the ADA placement guidelines, and we install bars for businesses, landlords, and property managers across Central Florida at the same flat price: $185 per bar, installed.
Staff and visitor restrooms in offices and small businesses, including single-user restrooms.
Landlords and property managers adding bars for a tenant, between tenants, or across several units.
Shared and public restrooms that need bars at the toilet, and at the tub or shower where there is one.
The 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design set out where grab bars go and how they're built. Here are the main grab bar numbers, in plain words, with the section each comes from.
| What | The guideline | Section |
|---|---|---|
| Height | 33 to 36 in. above the finished floor, measured to the top of the bar | 609.4 |
| Bar size | Round bars 1 1/4 to 2 in. across (outside diameter) | 609.2.1 |
| Space behind the bar | 1 1/2 in. between the wall and the bar | 609.3 |
| Space around the bar | At least 1 1/2 in. below and at the ends; at least 12 in. above (1 1/2 in. is allowed to shower controls and other bars above) | 609.3 |
| Strength | The bar, fasteners, mounting, and wall behind it must handle 250 lb of force, pushed or pulled at any point | 609.8 |
| Fittings | The bar must not spin in its fittings | 609.6 |
| Fixture | The guideline | Section |
|---|---|---|
| Toilet, side wall | At least 42 in. long, no more than 12 in. from the back wall, and reaching at least 54 in. out from the back wall | 604.5.1 |
| Toilet, back wall | At least 36 in. long, running at least 12 in. to one side of the toilet's center and 24 in. to the other | 604.5.2 |
| Tub (no built-in seat) | Two bars on the back wall, at least 24 in. long: one at 33 to 36 in., one 8 to 10 in. above the tub rim. Plus a 24 in. bar on the control end and a 12 in. bar on the head end, at the front edge of the tub | 607.4.2 |
| Transfer shower | Across the control wall and the back wall, to a point 18 in. from the control wall | 608.3.1 |
| Roll-in shower | With a seat: on the back wall and the wall across from the seat, never above the seat. Without a seat: on three walls. Within 6 in. of the adjacent walls | 608.3.2 |
These are general guidelines, not a full design. A real restroom also involves clear floor space, toilet height, doors, and more.
Most private homes and many rental units aren't required to follow the ADA Standards. Even for dwelling units that are covered, the Standards generally allow reinforced walls, ready for bars, instead of installed bars. Many landlords still use the ADA numbers as a clear, consistent starting point. When a tenant asks for a bar, we can also set it to fit the person who will use it.
Grab bars aren't only for bathrooms, either. For tenants, we also install them at entry steps, stairs, hallways, bedside, the garage step, and the laundry room. See home grab bar installation for how a residential visit goes.
Same flat price as a home: $185 per grab bar installed, all mounting hardware included. The bar itself is extra: supply your own (handy if you've already specified a model), or we can supply one. A typical toilet setup with a side-wall bar and a back-wall bar is two bars, or $370 in labor. Have several restrooms or units? Multiply by the number of bars, and send us the list for a free estimate.
Grab bars not included. Final price confirmed with your estimate.
We schedule Monday through Saturday, 7 AM to 5 PM. See full pricing details.
Our lifetime workmanship warranty covers businesses and rental owners too, for as long as you own the building: if a bar we installed loosens because of how we installed it, we fix it free. The bar itself is covered by its maker's warranty, and damage, misuse, and pre-existing wall problems aren't covered. We also come back for a free inspection at one year.

The 2010 ADA Standards (section 609.4) call for grab bars 33 to 36 inches above the finished floor, measured to the top of the gripping surface. The lower back-wall bar at a bathtub is the exception: it goes 8 to 10 inches above the tub rim.
No. Our techs know the ADA placement guidelines and install bars to them, but compliance depends on the whole restroom and your building's situation. For a formal compliance review, talk with an accessibility consultant, your architect, or your local building department.
Round grab bars need an outside diameter of 1 1/4 to 2 inches, with 1 1/2 inches of space between the bar and the wall. The bar and its mounting must handle 250 pounds of force applied at any point (sections 609.2, 609.3, and 609.8).
Most private homes and many rental units aren't required to follow the ADA Standards, and even covered dwelling units can generally have reinforced walls, ready for bars, instead of installed bars. Many landlords use the ADA numbers anyway as a consistent starting point, and we can also set a bar to fit a tenant.
