Grab bar installation · Zellwood, FL

Grab bar installation in Zellwood, including manufactured homes

Nearly half of Zellwood's residents are 65 or older, and nearly half of its homes are manufactured homes. Both affect how a grab bar should go in. We install them for $185 per bar.

Zellwood homes, and who lives in them

Zellwood is a small, unincorporated community in northwest Orange County, between Apopka and Mount Dora. Census estimates show 44% of residents are 65 or older, about twice the Florida rate, and 47% of homes are mobile or manufactured homes. Most homes are owner-occupied, and 43% were built in the 1980s (U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020–2024 estimates).

Much of that comes from Zellwood Station, a gated, resident-owned 55+ manufactured-home community with more than 1,200 homes on about 800 acres.

In a community like that, the bars that come up most are by the toilet, in the shower or tub, and at the entry steps.

Manufactured home walls, and site-built ones

Manufactured home walls are usually lighter than site-built ones, with thinner wall panels, and bathrooms often have a one-piece fiberglass or acrylic tub-and-shower unit. A bar on those walls has to reach the framing or use a fastener made for hollow walls. A plastic drywall anchor won't do.

Site-built Zellwood homes are more often concrete block or wood frame with drywall. Either way, we find out what's behind the wall before we drill. On hollow walls, the bar goes into a stud or blocking if one is in the right place. If not, we use commercial-grade grab bar fasteners, rated by their maker for up to 600 lbs in drywall with tile and made to exceed building codes and ADA guidelines. Any other fastener we use is comparable or better.

What we've installed in Zellwood

  • Two stainless bars. In April 2024 we installed a 16 in. and a 24 in. stainless steel grab bar in a Zellwood home.
  • Into the framing. We laid out the bars and drilled the mounting holes into the wall framing studs.
  • The right hardware. We used grab bar fasteners and a stainless nut-and-washer kit with the two bars.

Grab bars not included. Your final price is confirmed with your estimate.

Before we drill, your tech walks through each spot with you: who will use the bar, which hand they lead with, and where their hand naturally goes. We hold the bar up, adjust, and mark the wall only once you're happy with it. We can't promise that a plan, grant, or program will approve a claim, and some plans ask for a letter of medical necessity from your doctor, so check with your plan administrator first.

Warranty, and who we are

Every bar we install comes with our lifetime workmanship warranty for as long as you own your home or building: if a bar loosens because of how we installed it, we fix it free. The bar itself is covered by its maker's warranty, and damage, misuse, and pre-existing wall problems aren't covered. We also come back for a free inspection at one year.
