Alafaya homes: new, and often rented

Alafaya is an unincorporated area of east Orange County with about 92,449 residents, around the University of Central Florida, Waterford Lakes, and Avalon Park, a 1,860-acre New Urbanist community. Census estimates put the median year built for homes there at 2002, with 61% built since 2000 and 25% in apartment or condo buildings (U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020–2024 estimates).

About 36% of homes are rented, and only 11% of residents are 65 or older. Here a grab bar is often a landlord or property manager adding one for a tenant, or a family getting a home ready for a parent.

Alafaya walls: newer construction

Single-family homes here are usually concrete block outside with wood-stud drywall inside, and bathrooms have tile over cement backer board or a fiberglass or acrylic tub-and-shower unit. Apartment buildings may use metal studs in interior walls, which need different fasteners than wood.

Builders rarely add blocking for grab bars unless asked. We fasten into studs or blocking when they're where the bar belongs. When they aren't, we mount with commercial-grade grab bar fasteners. Their maker rates them for up to 600 lbs in drywall with tile and builds them to exceed building codes and ADA guidelines. If we ever switch fasteners, the replacement is comparable or better.

What grab bars cost in Alafaya

$185 per grab bar installed, one flat price wherever you are in Alafaya. Two bars are $370 in labor, the same price for a rental as for a home.

• Grab bars $100 or less bought for home use are exempt from Florida sales tax. Bars bought by a business are taxed.
• Not included: the grab bar itself. Use your own, or we can supply one at extra cost.

Before we drill, your tech walks through each spot with you: who will use the bar, which hand they lead with, and where their hand naturally goes. We hold the bar up, adjust, and mark the wall only once you're happy with it. We can't promise that a plan, grant, or program will approve a claim, and some plans ask for a letter of medical necessity from your doctor, so check with your plan administrator first.

Warranty, and who we are

Every bar we install comes with our lifetime workmanship warranty for as long as you own your home or building: if a bar loosens because of how we installed it, we fix it free. The bar itself is covered by its maker's warranty, and damage, misuse, and pre-existing wall problems aren't covered. We also come back for a free inspection at one year.
